“A writer who waits for ideal conditions under which to work will die without putting a word to paper." -E.B. White

Writing Resources
I’m not making any promises about these sites, but I like them!

Amazon.com: A great research tool. Search books by keyword, age, publication date - even by publisher. Many books have excerpts which can be read online.

Institute of Children’s Literature: Learn to write for children and teens, live author/editor interviews, live chat, writing tips, inspirational articles and publications, free weekly updates.

Renaissance Learning: The Accelerated Reader site is a great research tool. It has many search options and lists a very specific reading level. I especially love that it shows the book's word count.

SCBWI: A professional organization for writers and illustrators of children’s books.

SmartWriters.com: Dream it. Do it. Write it now!

Verla Kay's Website for Children's Writers & Illustrators: Verla Kay's website is where Children's Writers & Illustrators gather to share information, help each other, and have fun, while learning the business of writing and illustrating for children.

WRITE4KIDS.COM: The Children’s Writing Supersite. Since 1990, they've given advice, insider tips, instruction, insight and inspiration.

“You have to write whichever book it is that wants to be written. And then, if it's going to be too difficult for grown-ups, you write it for children."        -Madeleine L'Engle
